Systemic vs. Pulmonary Circulation

What Does the Heart Do? The heart is a pump, usually beating about 60 to 100 times per minute. With each heartbeat, the heart sends  blood  throughout our bodies, carrying oxygen to every cell. After delivering the oxygen, the blood returns to the heart. The heart then sends the blood to the  lungs  to pick up more oxygen. This cycle repeats over and over again. What Does the Circulatory System Do? The circulatory system is made up of blood vessels that carry blood away from and towards the heart.  Arteries  carry blood away from the heart and  veins  carry blood back to the heart. The circulatory system carries oxygen, nutrients, and  hormones  to cells, and removes waste products, like carbon dioxide. These roadways travel in one direction only, to keep things going where they should. What Are the Parts of the Heart? The heart has four chambers — two on top and two on bottom: ·          The two bottom chambers are the right ventricle and the  left ventricle . These

How to apply ICD-10-CM Codes

Basically the ICD-10-CM book is divided into 2 sections: Alphabetical Index and Tabular List. You will be coding diagnoses, illness, conditions, injury and external causes using ICD-10 You need to check the disease/illness in the Alphabetical Index first. It will direct you to the correct code. Once you go to the code in Tabular list read all the rules for that code and then carefully choose the correct code. Quite a simple process but just needs some attention! ICD-10-CM Guidelines for Coding and Reporting Guidelines for coding and reporting with ICD-10-CM are provided by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). These guidelines have been approved by the four organizations that make up the Cooperating Parties for the ICD-10-CM: the American Hospital Association (AHA), the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), CMS, and NCHS. The conventions of ICD-10-CM take precedence over these guide

ICD-11 --------------Implementation in the year 2022

Now is the time again for another huge change! Five years after the implementation of ICD-10-CM in USA, the world is gearing up for the next revision of ICD. It will be ICD-11. The tentative date for implementation of ICD-11 in US is set in the year 2022. So we all need to be prepared for this change. ICD-10 was initially approved by the World Health Congress in 1989, so it is 30 years old. We need a more current classification system that will work with electronic health records, and is more consistent with the systematized Nomenclature of Medicine (SNOMED) and modern medical terminology. The medical industry needs a classification system that is current with contemporary medical practice and will assist in collecting statistical information for mortality and morbidity data.     “As we look for innovation, ICD-11 can be a stepping stone to assist innovation". ICD-11 includes many new conditions that are not currently included in ICD-10. These new conditions may or
